Read on to discover the surprising facts about Camilla, Queen consort of the United Kingdom…
King Charles III’s wife was born Camilla Rosemary Shand, on July 17, 1947, in London, England. Her first marriage was to Andrew Parker Bowles. The union lasted from 1973 to 1995, and the couple had two children, Tom and Laura.
Camilla, Queen consort, is also known for being involved in one of the most known love triangles of recent decades. Her husband, then Prince Charles, admitted in 1994 to having cheated on his then-wife, the late Princess Diana, with Camilla.
Camilla studied French and French literature at the University of London Institute in Paris.
For many years, Camilla, Queen consort, has pursued and supported many causes, being one of the most notable ones her participation at the National Osteoporosis Society, of which she was named president in 2001. Camilla has a very particular story related to the illness, as her mother died from the disease, as well as her grandmother.
Camilla, Queen consort, has a true passion for animals and animal rights. King Charles’ wife is a big supporter of the rights of furry friends, and has teamed up with different organizations to help them, including Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. Over the course of her life, she has adopted a couple of pups, including a Jack Russell Terrier named Beth, as well as another dog called Bluebell.
The Queen Consort has earned plaudits for her fashion style, which is both formal and elegant. In 2018, Tatler magazine included her in the list of Britain’s Best Dressed People, praising her specifically for her including collection of hats. In 2022, she made her fashion magazine debut appearing in the July issue of Vogue magazine.
Netflix series ‘The Crown’ has told the story of the British Royal Family, with added drama. It is one of the most popular series on the streaming service and some members of the family watch it, including Camilla. Royal expert Katie Nicholl told Vanity Fair: “I imagine she’ll be tuning in with a glass of red wine to watch it. She has a wonderful sense of humor and this won’t fuss her in the slightest.” Nicholl added that Prince Charles has likely seen it too, saying: “I don’t think she has any real issue with it. Her feeling is very much ‘never complain, never explain.”
Before marrying into the British Royal Family Camilla worked as an assistant for an interior design company, called Colefax and Fowler.
In 2018, the Queen consort revealed what her favorite hobby is. During a visit to the British Flowers Week festival, she said: “I’d be out in my garden all day, every day if I were allowed. I love to get my hands dirty.”
The beautiful art deco ring has a five-carat emerald cut diamond in the center and three diamond baguettes on each side. The most interesting fact about the piece is that it once belonged to King Charles’ grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother.
