GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WVNews) — Our House Tavern Museum, located at 432 1st Avenue in Gallipolis, invites you to go back in time to an old-fashioned Christmas. Our House is decorated as it would have been in the early 1800s for their annual open house, Wednesday, Nov. 23, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Not only are the decorations from the early 1800s, there are also French children’s traditions, traditional food served after Mass, and a Christmas tree from the same period.
Enjoy live dulcimer music from Kendra Ward and Bob Bentz, as you sip hot chocolate and Pup in Cup tea samples. Ward is a pre-revival dulcimer player with an unbroken family legacy of Appalachian music that directly connects to the 1800s. The couple have won numerous awards in their 40 years of preforming, and delight audiences nationwide and abroad with their authentic Appalachian style music.
Visitors can also pick up some Christmas gifts from Pup in Cup teas, homemade apple butter by the Eastern Star, and handmade quilts by Sherry Lykins, all available for purchase during the open house.
Admission to this event is free and guests are encouraged to watch as the holiday lights, courtesy of Gallipolis in Lights, are turned on for the season in a lighting event at 7 p.m. in Gallipolis City Park, just down the street from the Museum.
Following the Open House, Our House Tavern Museum will be open on Thursday, Dec. 1, 8, 15, and 22 from 5-8 p.m. as part of the Heritage Lights Tour.
